If you're looking to up the ante of your VR experience, you can do it simply by pairing your Oculus Quest 2 with a phone. Although the Oculus Quest 2 provides you with an excellent standalone VR experience that eschews the need for an expensive gaming PC, it will require you to sign in with your Facebook account to use the headset.
Additionally, you will also be required to link your headset to the Oculus app to experience what it has to offer fully. This will require your Android or iOS tablet or phone. So, to start, you will have to install the app and sign in with your Facebook account.
Setting Up for the First Time
If you already have a pre-existing Facebook account set up previously, you can proceed to sign in. However, if you are pairing a new phone to your headset, you may skip to the next pairing setup portion, while first-time users will have to follow the steps below.
Similar to creating your Facebook account, you will have to create a VR profile once you have signed in. Click on 'Continue' and enter your unique username that you will be using for your Oculus Quest 2 games and apps. You are free to add your profile if you wish to. Once you are done, click on 'Continue', and you should reach the next page that consists of your privacy settings.
You should be able to see a disclaimer that states none of your Oculus activity will be shared to Facebook without your explicit consent and permission. Regardless, you may choose otherwise. Indicate your preferences and set them for your Oculus friends. This option will allow you to customize and determine who will view your activities on the Oculus app.
Next, you can choose how visible your Facebook profile will be and indicate who will be able to see your Facebook name on your Oculus profile. Keep in mind that if you have used a moniker while creating your Oculus account, users can see your Facebook name.
Once you have completed your privacy settings accordingly to your preferences, tap 'Continue'. Do not worry about this, as you can also adjust the settings again if you change your mind.
Pairing Your Oculus Quest 2 to Your Phone
When your settings and preferences have been set, you can move on to pairing the Oculus Quest 2 with your phone. Before continuing, you must ensure that your phone andheadset are connected under the same Wi-Fi network and router for this process to work.
This stage will require you to indicate which Oculus headset you will be using with the app. Tap 'Quest 2' and make sure your Bluetooth and headset are switched on, and your phone should automatically start pairing with your headset once it has been identified.
However, if your phone unexpectedly cannot pair with your Quest 2, you will need to complete the pairing process manually. First, you will have to put the headset on, and you should be able to see the unique five-digit pairing code generated on your LCD display. Proceed to enter the code on your phone, and you're complete with the pairing process!
